Duplicate Sweeper

It goes without saying that duplicate files do nothing but needlessly take up space; consequently, you should find out if there are any duplicates on your machine and take the appropriate measures. You can uncover if there are any duplicates and you can remove said duplicates with Wide Angle Software’s appropriately named Duplicate Sweeper. After telling the application where to look, it performs a scan and it uncovers any duplicates; you can then browse through the list of duplicates and remove the ones you don’t need.

Duplicate Sweeper will work on Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8. If you’re still on Windows XP, then you need to know that support for this aging OS is not provided. You will not be able to run Duplicate Sweeper on Windows XP. Speaking about running the application, it must be added that you will need the .NET Framework in order to run Duplicate Sweeper.

The panel from the left side of the application’s interface tells you that you can drag and drop folders on it or use the Add button to select the folders you want to be scanned. The panel to the right invites you to add special folders to the search: Desktop, Favorites, Documents, Pictures, Music Contacts. Above these two panels, in the upper right hand side there’s the Start Duplicate Search button. Click it and you will be presented with a list of duplicate files, a graphical representation of the file type, and a preview of a selected duplicate file.

Using Duplicate Sweeper is a simple 3-step process:
Step 1 – select the folders you want the application to scan. You can easily do this from the application’s user friendly interface.
Step 2 – launch the scan process. In no time at all the application will analyze the contents of the selected folders and will uncover any duplicate files.
Step 3 – from the list of duplicates, remove the ones you no longer need. You can keep the newest files, keep the oldest ones, or manually select what files to send to the Recycle Bin.

Please note that the trial version will uncover but will not remove duplicates.
